Finding Purpose

Hey friend,

Often, we are taught that we need to have it all figured out by a certain time. Usually, this timeline aligns with what society has decided is "normal" or "ideal." You know the script: go to college, start a career, get married, have kids. We are encouraged to check off these boxes in a specific order and within a specific time frame.

But I am here to tell you that your purpose should not be tied to societal expectations.

Purpose is deeply personal. It isn’t something that can be dictated by a calendar or a checklist. It’s a journey of discovery that unfolds uniquely for each of us. The pressure to have it all figured out by a certain age can lead to unnecessary stress, comparison, and even a sense of failure. But who decided that your purpose needed to arrive at 22, 30, or 40? The truth is, purpose doesn’t have a deadline.

I’ve seen it time and time again—people who discover their passions or find their calling well outside the so-called "ideal" timelines. Maybe it happens after raising children. Maybe it comes after a career change in midlife. Maybe it’s sparked by an unexpected life event that forces you to see the world differently. No matter when it happens, it’s valid.

I remember having a conversation with one of my good girlfriends, and she felt like she started her career too late. However, I reassured her that she was walking in purpose at the time that she was destined.

Your purpose might come in whispers or in grand, life-altering moments. It might change over time as you grow and evolve. And that’s okay. Life isn’t a straight line; it’s a winding path with twists and turns. Every detour, every pause, every new direction brings you closer to understanding what truly matters to you.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you navigate your journey:

  1. Give yourself grace. It’s okay to not have all the answers right now. You are allowed to take your time.

  2. Explore with curiosity. Try new things, follow your interests, and see where they lead you. Sometimes purpose is found in the most unexpected places.

  3. Define success on your own terms. Forget about what society says success looks like. What does it mean to you? What makes your heart feel full?

  4. Trust your timing. Just because someone else found their path at 25 doesn’t mean you’re behind if you’re still searching at 45. Your timing is perfect for your journey.

  5. Don’t be afraid to pivot. It’s never too late to change direction. If something no longer aligns with your values or passions, it’s okay to choose a new path.

Remember, finding your purpose isn’t a race—it’s a personal and sacred journey. Take the pressure off. Be patient with yourself. And most importantly, honor the unique way your life is unfolding. The right time for you is exactly when it happens.

You are not behind. You are exactly where you need to be. Trust that your purpose will find you when the time is right.
